Premise

The campaign trailer for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine VR, a location-based experience from Zero Latency.

Actors and a full film crew worked on an LED volume, with Unreal Engine environments and CG built around the performance, so the trailer sells the scale of the world and the feeling of standing inside it.

My contribution

Director, cinematographer and lighter on the trailer.

  1. 01Directed the actors and the full film crew on the LED volume.
  2. 02Set the camera language: lens choice, framing and movement.
  3. 03Lit the performance and the Unreal Engine environments as one image.
  4. 04Staged the action for camera across live action and CG.

Zero Latency stage

The trailer was made in camera on an LED volume. Actors and a full film crew worked in front of Unreal Engine environments on the wall, and I directed, framed and lit the performance and the world as one image.

Crew silhouetted against an industrial scene on the LED wall

Talking through a shot with an iPad on a dark stage
Reviewing a shot on an iPad beside the camera team
An actor lifts off a VR headset between takes on the LED stage

On the Zero Latency stage.
